Updating airport firmware

There’s probably no harm in passing on these updates if you’re not experiencing any problems with your network now.

I may be missing something painfully obvious, but how do I upgrade the firmware on an Airport Express?

You must update your Air Port base station using Air Port Utility on your Mac or an i OS device with the free Air Port Utility app installed (the download isn’t available via the Apple Support Web page or Software Update).

A few people are reporting problems with these updates, although it’s hard to know how widespread they are.

Scroll down that page to the heading "If you can't select your startup disk or start up from it".

Do this each time you want to start up from the device or from a startup disk connected to it.

Apple's firmware updates that were released yesterday have been installing properly for most people; however, a few people have run into problems when trying to apply the patch.
